Publisher's summary

Nothing ever changes in Sanders. The town's still got a video store, for God's sake.

So why doesn't Eli Teague want to leave?

Not that he'd ever admit it, but maybe he's been waiting - waiting for the traveler to come back. The one who's roared into his life twice before, pausing just long enough to drop tantalizing clues before disappearing in a cloud of gunfire and a squeal of tires. The one who's a walking anachronism, with her tricorne hat, flintlock rifle, and steampunked Model A Ford.

The one who's being pursued by...something.

So when the mysterious traveler finally reappears, Eli's determined that this time, he's going to get some answers. But his hunt soon yields far more than he bargained for, plunging him headlong into a dizzying world full of competing factions and figures straight out of legend.

To make sense of the mystery at its heart, he must embark on a breakneck chase across the country and through two centuries of history - with nothing less than America's past, present, and future at stake.

Fun read

Great book. Made me laugh quite a few times.. If I had to compare it to something it would be like a crossover of National Treasure and the Matrix and it would air on the history Channel. Loved it!

Good Book, But....

I love every book by Peter Clines. 14 and the Fold for example were amazing reads... this one was a good read, but confusing a bit... But still liked the characters, and the plot was good too.

Narration was excellent Ray Peter is one of the best narrators out there.

Best of the fall and once again RP rules!

This is an instant classic! Clines proves once again to be a master of character, suspense and plot development. A totally unique, fun and at times fascinating take on " history travel" that joins the listener on a rollicking ride. This is made even better by the inimitable Ray Porter, who owns every moment of this offering. Highly, highly recommended!

Interesting read. No spoilers.

Okay, so you're probably looking at this title because you've read 14 and The Fold. This book has a similar feel as those two in SOME ways. It talks heavily about time travel. Well, "history travel," as the book states several times...Usually, in response to a character calling it time travel.

Initially, I remember thinking "okay, yeah... those reviews were right. I wonder if I can get a refund on my credit?" I stuck it out longer because I've really enjoyed this author in the past, and He uses Ray porter frequently for narration and he is GREAT.

I felt the story moved a little slow at first. It was hours into narration before I even cared about what was going on. The story itself is very unique. sometimes I wonder where he comes up with these ideas. Once you finish the book, you'll see that there was a lot of thought put into it. There are also a few twist that are interesting.
On the downside, there are still things that I don't understand. Perhaps, it's just because this concept was way too intricate for my little mind to follow. (Like I said, a lot of thought was put into it)
It's not a book where I found myself being really invested in the characters, at least, not like I was in 14. I think maybe this book focuses more on the story, and the two leads are just used to further it.
But I will tell you my first impression was wrong. This IS a good book and worth a read. 14 is still my favorite. If you haven't read that yet, please start with it. Otherwise, I'm not sure you'll give this book a chance once you get into it.

My Favorite Writer

No one knows slow, but powerfully built story lines like Peter Clines. Although it's not imperative, I would strongly suggest starting with 14 (a different titillating tale of his), then moving on to The Fold, and allow Paradox Bound to be your cherry on top. Regardless of order, DEFINITELY read them all.

Take my money, Clines. Just keep 'em comin...

Wow American Pie with Fries

I really enjoy this author. And while I don’t think this is his masterpiece, he continues to grow as a writer. Here he has taken some hokey ideas —no spoilers— and actually pulled it off. He has taken these ideas and made them real again in a serious manner. While reading this novel, I found myself questioning what it means to be an individual, to be in a group, to be an American etc. He also focuses on how we treat each other and other basic interpersonal ideas. Clines does this without condescension and without being too preachy. He also covers many other ideas that will leave you thinking and hopefully confirming or changing how you view the world. Any author that can accomplish all of this is an author to watch.

The narration is great. Each character has a distinct voice that brings out more of their personalities and quirks.

Overall, a good, solid read that will hopefully leave you thinking.

Thrilling

I have only read one other of Peter Clines books. This book blew me away! All the twists were tied perfectly. What a smooth ending.

A good book but not my favorite from Peter Clines.

Im a big fan of 14 and Folds. Was hoping this book would tie in to that universe but there was only one reference that I caught. still a good book but not as good a his other two that I mentioned.

A wonderful journey

From 14 to The Fold then Paradox Bound, another wonderful “adventure” story to explore the unknown.

Not really a review

This book is, I think, excellent but I have to think that through to be sure. I may have to listen to it again. Whatever, if you like books that make you think/work while you're reading, this fits the bill.
